Here at Lakeside, we are trained in wide variety of techniques using hands-on and special instruments to relieve pressure on joints, improve nerve function, and reduce inflammation. Not everyone is the same therefore we take a customized treatment approach using modern technology to relieve pain; adjusting for the patient’s comfort. Adjustments are not just for the back- we treat the entire body from frozen shoulder to plantar fasciitis. There are over 100 types of adjustment techniques that can be used to treat your needs.

When your vertebrae aren't aligned properly, it sets off a chain reaction in your body, affecting everything from your muscles to your central nervous system. By realigning your spine, chiropractic adjustments can help your body function at its best, relieving discomfort and allowing you to perform at your best.

In short, spinal adjustments and manipulations are a fantastic way to keep your body in top shape. When everything is aligned properly, your body can function with intention - keeping you healthy and active!

Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal Decompression Therapy (DTS) is a leading non-surgical alternative to spine surgery, and is very effective in reducing or even eliminating a combination of neck and arm or back and leg pain. This treatment works by taking the pressure off the neural elements of your spine. Decompression works by gently lengthening and releasing the spine repetitively all while prioritizing your comfort and safety.

If you are experiencing neck or back pain, or feeling discomfort that extends into your arms or legs; DTS could be a great solution for you. It is designed to treat disc-related syndromes in your cervical or lumbar spine, and has been shown to provide symptomatic relief for patients with certain types of spinal stenosis. At Lakeside, we use advanced technology- Chattanooga Triton 6M Traction Table. Each session typically lasts less than 20 minutes, and many individuals experience significant improvement in as few as 6-12 treatments. Also consider chiropractic adjustment as it complements spinal decompression treatments by correcting structural and mechanical misalignments.

Thermotherapy

Chattanooga hydrocollator units are used to maintain moist clay-filled hot packs. Moist heat is more effective than dry heat in providing better penetration of the tissue at the same temperature. Moist heat can speed up recovery by increasing blood flow to the targeted area. Increased circulation brings in fresh blood and removes waste that may slow healing. Thermotherpay is often used in conjunction with other soft tissue and spinal manipulation techniques.

Cold Laser

At Lakeside Chiropractic, we use a Chattanooga Vectra Genisys laser for Class 4 low level laser therapy (LLLT). This treatment involves specific wavelengths of light (600-1000 nanometers) that interact with tissue to speed up the healing process for various clinical conditions. The light is absorbed by the tissue, triggering a reaction in damaged cells that stimulates regeneration.

Cold laser therapy uses radiation intensities that lead to minimal temperature elevation (no more than 0.1 to 0.5 degrees Celsius), if any. Low-energy lasers are recognized for their effectiveness in providing pain relief by reducing localized inflammation.

The handheld laser device is used by the doctor and is placed directly over the injured area for 30 seconds to several minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated and the recommended dosage.

Cold laser therapy is an effective and widely utilized treatment for:

  • Ligament sprains

  • Muscle strains

  • Soft tissue injuries

  • Tendonitis

  • Arthritis

  • Lateral Epicondylitis (Tennis elbow)

  • Medial Epicondylitis (Golfer’s elbow)

  • Medial tibial stress syndrome (shin splints)

  • Temporomandibular Joint dysfunction

  • Bursitis

  • Fibromyalgia

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Unlike diagnostic ultrasound, which is used for internal body screening, therapeutic ultrasound is a treatment aimed at providing relief for soft tissue injuries, joint problems, and muscle spasms. By using high-frequency sound waves to generate heat in specific areas, this therapy helps reduce inflammation, increase blood flow, and alleviate pain, stiffness, and spasms. It's also believed to play a significant role in the healing process at a cellular level.

  • The doctor will be applying gentle pressure, using a plastic wand with a smooth rounded metallic head; which will be emitting ultrasound waves as it is gliding over your skin at the targeted area. The application of ultrasound gel enhances the transmission of these waves while minimizing friction. Despite the deep-tissue heat application, most patients report feeling minimal to no heat at all. Communication between doctor and patient remains throughout the entirety of treatment to further ensure patient comfort. Therapeutic ultrasound is known for its ability to promote the body's healing process at the cellular level.

Electric Stimulation

At Lakeside we provide multiple types of electrical muscle stimulation therapies (EMS) to help our patients manage pain and aid in their recovery. Two of the most common types used are Inferential Current and Microcurrent. EMS is a highly effective method for relieving pain, reducing swelling, and expediting recovery. This therapy is particularly beneficial for soft tissue injuries, and muscle spasms, and assisting athletes in their post-workout recovery.

  • During this in-office treatment, electrodes are placed on the skin over the affected area, and a machine transmits an electrical current into the soft tissue or muscle. The intensity of the current is adjusted based on the injury and its location. This electrical current induces small but rapid muscle contractions, which may cause a tingling or prickly sensation that subsides quickly after treatment. Many patients find this sensation enjoyable and relaxing.

EMS helps to induce tiny muscle contractions, tiring the muscles and inducing relaxation, thereby relieving pain and muscle spasms. Additionally, it stimulates the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain relievers, and promotes better nutrient delivery and accelerated soft tissue healing by removing metabolic waste.

While commonly used for back and neck muscles, EMS is beneficial for various parts of the body and can effectively treat both acute and chronic pain. If you are dealing with pain or have recently suffered an injury, call the office to learn if EMS is the right choice for you.

  • Interferential Current Therapy is a form of electric stimulation that penetrates deep into tissue to block pain at the spinal cord. This technique involves placing electrodes around the injured body part and using a device to transmit two different frequency currents, stimulating the underlying tissue and nerves to initiate the healing process.

Common Uses for Interferential Current Therapy:

    • Muscle and circulatory disorders

    • Factures

    • Stiff joints

    • Joint injuries

    • Edema

    • Inflammation- bursitis and tendonitis

    • Muscle spasms

    • Frozen shoulder

Benefits of Interferential Current Therapy include:

    • Safe treatment

    • Ability to decrease inflammation

    • Improving range-of-motion and restoration of lost movement

    • Stimulating the bodies natural ability to promote healing

  • Microcurrent therapy is another form of electric stimulation used to treat soft tissue injuries and chronic pain. However, microcurrent therapy uses very small currents, therefore the patient does not feel anything during treatment. When the body experiences injury or disease its natural electric current can be disrupted that affects cell’s ability to communicate and ultimately slows down the healing process. This therapy aims to restore the body's electromagnetic field, enhancing cell function and promoting healing while reducing pain, inflammation, and muscle spasms. It is commonly used to address back and neck pain, as well as a variety of chronic and acute physical conditions, typically in combination with other chiropractic therapies.

Graston Technique

This effective instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization technique enables us to identify and address areas of "scar tissue" or adhesions in muscles, tendons, and ligaments that may cause pain and limited movement.

During the healing process, our bodies form "scar tissue" to repair muscles, tendons, and ligaments, similar to the way our skin creates a scar after an injury. However, this replacement tissue is not as robust or flexible as healthy tissue. Over time, an accumulation of this fibrous scar tissue can occur, especially in areas of frequent use, leading to pain and restricted movement. In some cases, the tissue may even compress a nerve.

The Graston Technique® allows us to more effectively identify and address these areas. It involves the use of a stainless-steel instrument that glides along a patient's muscles, tendons, or ligaments, serving as a "scar tissue" detector. When we encounter knots or bands of scar tissue, both the doctor and the patient can feel a restriction or a grainy texture. The instrument can then be used to break up this restriction or adhesion. Subsequently, stretching exercises are employed to encourage realignment of the fibers, promoting a more natural, healthy tissue behavior.

The Activator Method

The Activator Method is an instrument-assisted chiropractic technique that employs a specialized spring-loaded tool to administer a gentle yet targeted impulse to the joint, aiming to reinstate proper motion. Using the instrument, we can provide a quick, low-force impulse at specific locations.

The advantages of an Activator instrument-assisted treatment are:

  • Limited force: The amount of force used is localized and controlled. It is a gentle method of care because the body is not positioned in possible compromised positions, such as bending or twisting.

  • Quick Impulse: Using the fast-acting instrument doesn’t allow for the muscles of the body to tense up as much or offer resistance against the device. Therefore, treatment is more effective due to the lack of muscle resistance.

At Lakeside, this method may be paired with other manual therapy techniques designed to treat a patient’s specific needs.

Therapeutic Exercise

Check out how therapeutic exercises prescribed by our specially trained professionals can help you restore flexibility, strength, and endurance. By targeting specific physical issues, these exercises aim to improve your overall health and well-being. They work to increase your mobility, release contracted muscles, mobilize joints, enhance coordination, and much more. Whether it's endurance training, resistance training, or flexibility training, the goal of these exercises is to help you achieve the highest level of physical fitness without invasive methods. You can even perform these exercises at home to improve your quality of life.

Flexion-Distraction

Flexion-Distraction is a hands-on spinal manipulation technique that is carried out with the patient positioned prone on a specialized chiropractic table. This type of decompression therapy is particularly effective for addressing conditions that result in lower back pain, leg pain, neck pain, and arm pain. Research has shown that this method is beneficial for alleviating spinal pain related to disc bulges and herniations, facet syndrome, spinal canal stenosis, and spondylolisthesis.
